delicately modelled with lobed sides flaring from a circular centre, covered overall in a deep red lacquer save for the base lacquered black and inscribed in red paint  De zhi and an illegible yellow seal mark, Japanese wood box

Condition

There is restoration to the ends of numerous petals and there is cracking to the lacquer to the interior and to the exterior, where this has resulted in some loss to the lacquer. There is also numerous areas of loss to the lacquer at the footrim.
