  • jade
of square section, carved to the top with a crouching monkey grasping a large peach in its hands, the stone of an even white tone; together with a pale celadon jade ‘chilong’ seal

Literature

Chilong seal: Emperor, Scholar, Artisan, Monk. The Creative Personality in Chinese Works of Art, Sydney L. Moss, London, cat. no. 106.

Condition

Monkey and peach seal: There is a very small 2mm by 1mm chip to the top of the base below the monkey. There are also other nicks to the corners of the base. Chilong seal: There is a 3mm by 2mm chip to the base. There is also other small nicks to the edges and sides of the base.
