the deep slightly rounded sides rising from a recessed base to a flanged rim, painted around the exterior with two rectangular panels enclosing a scene from literature, all above a line of bosses and divided by two unglazed animal mask ring handles, the flat cover surmounted by an unglazed lion dog finial, the base with underglaze six-character mark
Condition
The box with a 22mm rim chip; one of the handles with two breaks and re-stuck. The cover with a 18mm chip to rim; the finial with losses to the ears and tip of the tail. Minor firing imperfections and light surface wear to both box and cover.
