The colours in this miniature have survived well. There is a small amount of mould on this miniature, however this can be removed.

Catalogue Note

Maximilien naquit à Mannheim en 1756. En 1799, il succéda à son cousin comme électeur de Bavière et s’allia à Napoléon au début des campagnes napoléoniennes. En 1806, il marie sa fille princesse Augusta avec Eugene de Beauharnais (1781-1824), beau-fils de Napoléon, et devenue roi de Bavière. C’est en 1813, juste avant la bataille de Leipzig, qu’il changea pourtant de camp. La chute de Napoléon profita largement à Maximilien qui fit de son royaume l’un des plus puissants après le royaume de Prusse.
