One of only 21 deluxe copies on large paper, with all but four of the plates in 2 states.
James's account of his travels across Somalia includes much information on the flora and fauna of the area. Somalia was of interest in Britain at the time of publication because of the expansion of the activities of the British East Africa Company. There are also accounts of hunting. The author was killed by an elephant in west Africa in 1890.
