“An excellent descriptive narrative touching on most of the major islands in the western pacific” (Hill), including a lengthy section on the Pitcairn Islands, in which Hood provides “much detail on native customs, and includes his thoughts on polygamy, cannibalism, agriculture, religion, child rearing and relations with the whites. There is also an interesting account of the descendants of the Bounty mutineers on Norfolk Island”.
