“An interesting travel narrative by an English gentleman-traveler, who devotes more than 300 pages of the text to his visit to Hawaii. Samuel Hill arrived at Honolulu on the Josephine, December 24, 1848, direct from Kamchatka, where he had made an exploratory tour. He describes Honolulu, gives a general history of the Islands since Captain Cook's time, and visits local sites of picturesque or historical interest. His travels around the island of Hawaii, however, are the most interesting portions of the text” (Forbes).
