FIRST EDITION, 8vo (206 x 122mm.), 22pp., blue half calf, marbled boards, dark red label, top edge gilt

Rare. After his many heroic exploits in the cause of South American independence from the Spanish, MacGregor, who had been made a prince of the territory of 'Poyais' on the Mosquito coast by its king, proceeded to promote a scheme to encourage investment in, and emigration to his non-existent country. James Hastie provides a first-hand account of some of the distressing experiences of the 170 emigrants on their voyage and after their arrival at the desolate Black River on the north coast of South America. See David Sinclair's Sir Gregor MacGregor and the Land that Never Was.
