The book was printed "For private circulation only", and this copy is numbered 113, of an unspecified limitation. Preceding the title page is a printed leaf stating "I send you a copy of the Dairy of my journey from Srinagar to this place [Kashgar]. It is bound in a stuff of which clothes are made in Central Asia, and it is the first book... to be published in this part of the world in any European language". This leaf has been inscribed by the author to "My dear Garnett... In memory of our journey to Fuan Yueh..."
