An account of a three month journey by way of Muscat, the Persian Gulf, Bahrein, Bushire, Basra, Bagdad, Mosul, Kirkuk, Kurdistan, Aleppo and then by sea to Constantinople, in order to make an objective assessment "as to the real drift of things in the Ottoman Empire" (preface, p.v). An interesting association copy of a relatively rare work, from the library of H.S. Cowper, who followed and described a similar route in the opposite direction some years later (see provenance).
