Scottish naturalist and traveller Henry Forbes explored the islands of the Dutch East Indies, travelling in Java, Sumatra, Moluccas, Timorlaut, Bouru and Timor. This work provides detailed descriptions of the natural history, wildlife and peoples of western Java and southern Sumatra, earlier visited by Alfred Russell Wallace.
