A highly popular account of the English and French pirates who harassed the West Indies. "This translation was not from the original Dutch but from the Spanish translation, which emphasized the worst aspects of the English buccaneers more strongly than the original text. When this translation appeared, several former buccaneers brought libel suits... Sir Henry Morgan was awarded £200 and a public apology" (Hill).
