"Edmonstone... met Belzoni who encouraged him in his undertaking to visit the oases of Upper Egypt and Dakel. The ruins in the Great Oasis at Thebes had been visited previously only by Cailliaud, while Edmonstone's party followed Drovetti to the Oasis of Dakel by only three days" (Blackmer).
