A riposte to the account of the mutineers Bulkeley and Cummins (see lot 31). Following the wreck of the Wager, fourteen of the crew, including the author and John Byron (see lot 232), chose to stay with Captain Cheap. Campbell gives an account of the remarkable voyage north along the coast of Chile where, after being aided by the indigenous people, they were captured by the Spanish authorities and did not reach England until 1746. This work was recalled soon after publication, and suppressed.
