Catalogue Note

"In 1600 [Cartwright] accompanied John Mildenhall in his journey from Aleppo to Kashan in Persia. After separating from Mildenhall, Cartwright proceeded to Esfahan and continued to travel widely in the Middle East. The account of his journeys is one of the most valuable of the period" (Howgego).
