Catalogue Note

Rare (only one copy recorded on ABPC). In 1841 James Brooke became the first ruler of the Kingdom of Sarawak, located on the north coast of the island of Borneo. The land was granted to the “White Rajah” by the Sultan of Brunei after helping him to put down an insurgency among the indigenous peoples (cf. lots 171 and 172).
