Catalogue Note

"Betagh was the captain of Marines under Shelvocke, and in this book he attacks his leader violently" (Borba de Moraes). "In addition, Betagh describes his impressions of the countries visited... particularly the Spanish dominions of Chile and Peru, where he observed the customs of the Creoles and the techniques of gold and silver mining and refining. Baja California and Macao were also visited. Clipperton Island, off the west coast of Mexico, was discovered and named after Captain Clipperton" (Hill).
