Condition

The angel was taken from an architectural context. There are therefore several losses, including to the back of the head, wing, proper left hand, and ends of the arch it is sat on. There are some traces of worming, which have led to some losses at the proper right hand and top of the head. The polychromy has heavily darkened and has craquelure throughout which has led to some minor losses such as at the shoulders and feet.

Catalogue Note

The present angel must have come from the end of a long lost set of choir stalls. It holds its hand to its ear as if listening to to the hymns and sermons.
