Catalogue Note
From the genesis of Gothic stained glass in France in the 12th century Christian narratives were arranged on the tall narrow windows in a succession of roundels such as the present. The window has been altered significantly but certain sections such as the head of the kneeling mother, the foliage, and the throne reflect the florid style of the last decades of the thirteenth century. Compare the almond eyes and elaborate headdress of the mother with The adulterous behaviour of Saint Gangolfius’s wife Ganeo in the church of Saint Gengoult in Toul illustrated in Grodecki and Brisac (op.cit., fig. 139).
