with the arms of Charles Frederick, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp (1700-1739), and the underside of the lid and the stem respectively numbered in green paint: 15700b / 1939.

Condition

Overall the condition of the glass is good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is some wear to the gilding, particularly around the rim of the cup. There are some very small air bubbles in the glass. There are a few slight imperfections in the glass, including one under the middle knop of the stem, which resembles a lacuna. There are some slight scratches and abrasions.

This fine cup compares closely with another in the collections of the Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo, Ohio (inv. no. 2004.44). It is distinguished by the presence of the arms of Charles Frederick, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp, father of Tsar Peter III of Russia (1728-1762).
