Condition

Overall the condition of the pendant is very good with some wear and dirt to the surface consistent with age. There are some minor losses to enamel at the tips of the beams and on the underside at the reverse. A tip on the upper left of the Virgin is lost. The lower left arm and foot of Christ are lost.

Catalogue Note

This charming pendant is typical of the finely carved coral devotional objects produced in Trapani in Sicily during the 17th and 18th centuries. The present pendant is distinguished by its striking enamelled gold halo formed of flame-like finials.
