It is assumed that items 2 – 49 comprise proof printings. Certainly the borders, as published in The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer, are not included here. The examples from Chaucer are as follows: 'The Tale of the Clerk of Oxenford' p. [136]; 'The Frankeleyns Tale' p. [169] and p. [170]; 'An A.B.C. of Geoffrey Chaucer' p. [223]; 'The Romaunt of the Rose' p. [244], p. [248], p. [253], p. [256] and p. [273]; 'The Book of the Duchesse' p. [385]; 'The Legend of Goode Wimmen' p. [431], p. [437] and p. [441]; 'The Hous of Fame' p. [452], p. [454], p. [466], p. [467] and 'Troilus and Criseyde' p. [470], p. [471], p. [482], p. [501], p. [536] and p. [537]. In a letter from Isabel Catterson-Smith to Mary Lago, dated 1978, Isabel Catterson-Smith states "I am sitting opposite to a row of woodblock B.J. drawings carried out by father 8" x 5" in small white frames" (see lot 112).
