folio (274 x 179mm.), FIRST EDITION, second issue with e3 cancelled and previously blank e4 printed with errata and colophon omitting Norton's name, engraved title-page by Simon van der Pass, 8-line historiated woodcut initials, woodcut head- and tail-pieces, with blank leaf c4, without initial blank leaf, engraved title slightly spotted and possibly supplied from another copy at some point, some leaves with minor worming, A1 with slight marginal tears, e2 slightly torn at margin
[bound with:] Sylva Sylvarum: or, A Naturall Historie. In Ten Centuries...hereunto is now added an Alphabeticall Table... John Haviland for William Lee, 1639, fifth edition, engraved frontispiece portrait of Bacon and additional engraved title page, "New Atlantis" at the end with divisional title and separate pagination, rebound in modern half calf, marbled boards, new endpapers, early and last leaves with slight worming, leaves slightly spotted and browned, occasional staining, a few edge-tears, second half of text cut close at lower margin (sometimes shaved)
