Catalogue Note
Max Reinhardt (1915-2002) started his publishing life with accounting textbooks. In 1957, however, Reinhardt and a banker partner bought The Bodley Head. With Graham Greene as director, the firm published works by Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Alistair Cooke, Eric Ambler and Greene himself. Under Reinhardt, The Bodley Head expanded one of the most outstanding children's books lists in modern publishing. One of the early successes was the first English edition of Sendak's influential book, originally published in the U.S. in 1963.
