Catalogue Note
A fine preliminary drawing showing a detail for the upper cover design of the third Harry Potter book. Harry Potter and Hermione Granger riding the back of Buckbeak the Hippogriff would become the arresting image of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. In this preliminary drawing most detail is lavished on Harry and Hermione and the details are, largely, present in the published illustration. Note, however, Harry's foot nestling in Buckbeak's feathers here.
