In 1934 A. & C. Black published Daskein’s Chimney Town, comprising four stories. Offered here is A SET OF ILLUSTRATIONS FOR THE FINAL STORY, INCLUDING THE WATERCOLOUR. The full-page illustrations are listed above. The other illustrations appear on pp. 189, 192, 202, 204, 205, 207, 215, 230, 231.
Ida Outhwaite (1888-1960) is chiefly remembered for her illustrations of fairies. Her remarkable skill in both ink drawing and watercolour is demonstrated here (see also next lot). Artwork for the other two stories from Chimney Town was sold in these rooms, 14 July 2015, lots 251 and 252.
