Catalogue Note
Patrick Miller was the pen name of the architect George MacFarlane who wrote several highly original books. The Green Ship was perceived as "one of those books which one reads almost by chance, and which changes one's whole view of the world". MacFarlane was a friend of Gill and was insistent that he be commissioned to produce the wood-engravings.
