Catalogue Note

The 'Guinea Series' was conceived as a means of publishing short stories by contemporary writers. In order to vary the formula and attract new collectors, the illustrators chosen were those who had worked little or not at all for the Press. A.E. Coppard was the first author in the series and it was he who knew and suggested most of the subsequent authors (Cave and Manson pp.87-89).
