1) pencil drawing, 136 by 86mm., with additional sketches in margin, some soiling, browning and slight abrasions; 2) ink, watercolour and gouache drawing, 174 by 88mm. (2)

Catalogue Note

The first drawing is IN THE HAND OF BURNE-JONES and shows a design for a proposed bookplate based on the family crest and featuring the motto "Sequar et attingam". A note on the reverse, signed and dated by Robert Catterson-Smith at 30 December 1927, confirms Burne-Jones' hand. The second drawing presumably shows a rough design by Catterson-Smith based on the pencil drawing.
