Catalogue Note

Shepard redrew many of his illustrations throughout his life and, given the use of tracing paper here, it is assumed that this is a preliminary pencil drawing for a redrawn version of 'Little Boy kneels at the foot of the bed' (from 'Vespers'). Below the mount there is a letter 'J'. A different preliminary sketch was sold at Christie's, 12 December 1990, lot 97. The present piece was sold by Chris Beetles Ltd.
