Catalogue Note

The first illustration is from chapter six of Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities. Publication is currently untraced. The inscription on the second drawing reads 'From Charles E. Brock to "John Ayscough" with sincere admiration of his work. July 1917'. "John Ayscough" was the pseudonym of Francis Bickerstaffe-Drew (1858-1928). Publication is untraced. The third drawing is dated July [18]96 and reproduced on page 235 of the 1896 Cassell publication of Thackeray's Ballads and Songs.
