Catalogue Note

A SUPERB COPY, from the family library of important patrons; Pope stayed at Stanton Harcourt in 1717–1718, during which time he translated the fifth volume of the Iliad. The tower in which he worked was subsequently named after him. Given the dates of Pope's stay at Stanton Harcourt, the date of this book, and the sumptuous nature of the binding, it is possible that this copy was presented by the author.
