Catalogue Note

An important essay on the life and work of Gauguin and an early collaboration between Harry Kessler and Eric Gill. The book was issued in wrappers with Gill's printed lettering. Here, however, the binding is in boards and the lettering provided by an accomplished manuscript hand. Given differences with the spine lettering it is assumed that this copy is a prototype by Gill.
