The present drawing is on the back of a printed correspondance card of The Housemakers Society of Hammersmith, which was founded by Edward Johnston and Gill, and is described by Fiona MacCarthy as 'radical in outlook ... an early bid for efficiency style, for the application of logic in the home ... a question of achieving four-square lives in four-square homes'. It dates this drawing to Gill's Hammersmith years, 1905-7.
