4to, first edition, no.102 of 150 copies numbered and signed by the author, illustrations by Barrie Cooke, original half-maroon morocco, gilt-decorated marbled boards, top edge gilt, other edges uncut, original slipcase, preserved in specially made green cloth folding box, very minor wear to slipcase 

The Rainbow Press was set up in 1970 by Heaney's friend, fellow poet and sometime collaborator Ted Hughes with his sister Olwyn Hughes, and published 16 titles between 1971 and 1981. As Heaney writes in his preface here, "the poems raised their heads out of my own ground but gained a confidence in themselves through the matching and nurturing interest of Ted Hughes, Barrie Cooke and Olwyn Hughes to whom this book is dedicated".
