Catalogue Note
Two officially-sanctioned pamphlets justifying the condemnation (under Edward III's treason law) of the Jesuit martyr Edmund Campion (1540-81) and his fellow Catholic priests who were brought to trial at Westminster Hall in November 1581 and then hanged, drawn and quartered at Tyburn on 1st December. Campion had been interrogated, sometimes under vicious torture, for several months after his arrest in July the same year.
