blaming his delay in in writing on money troubles but explaining that he is now sending 50 pistoles "which is all I can do till my bills come from Madrid, in the meane time I must charge you, that you keepe this secret", 1 page, 4to, Colombes, France,16 December [1659], integral adress leaf, remains of red wax seal impression, seal tear, faded, dampstained, fragile at folds [with:] five bills for payments of sums from the royal coffers to Eliott, two being payments of an annuity and three being repayments of loans, all signed by Lord Ashley, Sir Robert Howard, and others, and endorsed by Sir Robert Long, 21 May 1670 to 23 November 1671
