Catalogue Note
The toast rack possibly acquired by or a gift to Clementine's mother Blanche Hozier, nee Airlie, the year it was made when resident in Edinburgh. Both Clementine and her sister Kitty went to a school on Moray Place, Edinburgh and Blanche took 'lodgings opposite the school' in 1897 to be near her daughters (Mary Soames, Clementine Churchill, Doubleday, London, 2002, p.13).
