Condition

There is slight undulation at the upper left corner of the original canvas. This appears to have caused some lines of paint cracking in the same area and a minute area of paint loss. There are further minor areas of paint cracking an reticulation across the composition. There appears to be an uneven and slightly discoloured varnish layer across the paint surface and some frame abrasion along the upper edge of the canvas. Ultraviolet light reveals some fine lines of florescence which appear to correspond to the retouching of the paint cracks in the upper left quadrant. The painting is presented in a gilt frame with a linen covered slip. Please contact the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
