Catalogue Note
This Christmas gift dates from just after Mary Churchill and Christopher Soames had announced their engagement. It was a gift with personal resonance: Evelyn Waugh had been a friend of Randolph Churchill since the late 1920s and had been instrumental in Waugh's secondment to Yugoslavia, where he served with Randolph providing support to Tito's partisans.
