Catalogue Note
1945 was the first Christmas spent by Winston and Clementine Churchill at their final London address, 28 Hyde Park Gate. This first peacetime Christmas followed, of course, Churchill's defeat in the 1945 General Election, and he was occupying himself writing his wartime memoirs whilst continuing as Leader of the Opposition. Mary was still in uniform and was living as an ATS officer in Gloucester Square, just minutes from Hyde Park Gate.
