Catalogue Note

Tseng Yu-Ho called Honolulu, Hawaii home for over fifty years. She and her husband lived in the Nu'uanu Valley on Oahu, where she painted The Upside Down Waterfall. The waterfall cascades over a hundred feet from windward cliff of Mount Konohuanui and seems to rise back up into the air when the strong winds blows the water upwards. Considered one of the most majestic falls in the Hawaiian islands, the Upside Down Waterfall is particularly special for its mysterious nature and allure from its lack of accessibility. This painting depicts the lush mountains with white water rising and falling at the same time over the rocks below. Her use of dsui painting and collage captures the translucent effect of the watery mist enveloping the majestic landscape.
