Catalogue Note

The offer of Aurèle’s Lost Dog (Dragon & Phœnix) in the Hong Kong Contemporary Asian Art Day Sale on 5 October 2014 is to benefit the Sports for Hope Foundation (SFHF). Born in 1963, Aurèle is a French artist who burst onto the art scene in the late eighties. Aurèle's metaphor of the Lost Dog should be considered as a direct reflection of our own lives and therefore this symbol is a constant image in his work. The work on offer is a pair of Lost Dogs which Aurèle created specially in Jindezhen, the capital of ceramic in China. All proceeds from the sale, after deducting expenses, will go to benefit the Sports for Hope Foundation. The mission of the Sports For Hope Foundation is to provide funding for young highly-talented underprivileged athletes in Hong Kong and Greater China, who lack the financial means to further their passion.  The SFHF advocates all-rounded sportsmanship by providing extensive support in sports training via sports award incentive programmes, sports psychology, sports nutrition, sports physiotherapy and sports-related education overseas in a multi-cultural environment.  In addition to equipping athletes to compete at elite levels, the SFHF’s ultimate goal is to enhance one’s personal development focusing on trust, perseverance, care, pride and social responsibility.
