Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is evidence of wear and handling along the edges including some hairline craquelure at the pull margins which has caused minor paint loss along the upper right edge. There are scattered, localized spots of varnish, possibly from the time of execution. There is a hairline crack approximately 4 inches from the left edge at the bottom. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, the varnished areas fluoresce brightly, which is presumably the result of the aforementioned varnish rather than inpainting. Framed.

Catalogue Note

"ZERO is ZERO, and there is nothing except ZERO...just as New York is New York and Tokyo is Tokyo, ZERO is ZERO. In other words, a new city has appeared on the map of art. And it is a very beautiful and very lively city." - Heinz Mack
