Description

the camel stood four-square on a rectangular base with, the head held high, the groom standing a small rectangular base wearing a long tunic and high pointed cap, both partially covered with a streaky ochre glaze

Condition
The camel's head and jaw had been broken and restored. Both hindlegs have been broken and restored with associated overpainting. There are areas of glaze chips/abrasion to the tail, the edge of the saddle, the top of the humps and the hooves.
The groom's head may have been broken and restuck, with a thin layer of clay around the neck line. There are small chips and nibbling along the extremities. There is a triangular area of glaze wear on the robes to the reverse.
Both has minor glaze wear and glaze firing imperfections including kiln grits.
