Description

seated on a throne, wearing a long robe and holding a book in his left hand, his fierce face framed by a long beard and tall cap, his robe brightly glazed in yellow, green and aubergine

Condition

The figure suffered from a number of breaks which have now been repaired, including Guandi's left hand, a large section near his left leg, and the dragon head to the terminal of the seat-rail near his right and left hand, and the moustache of his mythical beast waist band. There are some losses to the extremities of the headdress, chips along the edges including two on the hems of his robe (measuring 1.2 x 0.5cm and 1.5x0.4cm). There are also considerable chips and nibbling to the extremities. Some minor firing imperfections including general fritting, firing cracks, burst glaze bubbles and iron spots. There are also minor wears to the enamels.
