the square body rising from four lion mask cabriole legs to a broad everted rim, supporting a central tier pierced with ‘wan’ bands, the similarly pierced and domed cover surmounted by a lion dog finial, all brightly enamelled in yellow, green and aubergine enamels
Condition
One leg of the censer has been broken and restuck, with associated restoration and overpainting. The lion finial has a small chip to one of the coils of the fur tail. There are other minor wear and losses to the extremities. Other glaze firing imperfections include burst glaze bubbles, grits and fritting. Minor enamel ware.
