Description

  • porcelain and brass bases
  • each 6¼in high
each depicted recumbent, detailed with large round eyes, flaring nostrils and curly mane, covered overall in a turquoise glaze thinning to ochre around the face, the eyes picked out in aubergine-black enamels, mounted on later brass bases with inscribed numbers to the base

Condition

Both lions with one of the ears restored and general small chips (particularly to the extremities) and some glaze chips. There are considerable minor glaze firing imperfections such as grits, glaze crackle and burst glaze bubbles, as characteristic of this type. Both lions fitted on gilt-bronze stands.
