worked in polychrome threads on a satin ground, each centred with a standing figure, one with a young man with a crook and small leather pouch, the other with a female holding a staff and two flowering pansies, both surrounded by flowers and foliage; each mounted within a glazed wooden frame
Condition
Finely worked with charming details, and the embroidery is in good condition overall, with some minor oxidisation to the dark colours (example feather design in hat of male) and balanced fading of colours overall.
There are some splits to the satin ground on both panels. For example to the panel depicting the male, there are some splits in the top left corner, and up the far right edge, and there are vertical splits and some loose threads to the left of the standing figure. The panel depicting the lady, has splits in the far right corner, and an area of horizontal folds to the right of the female figure. The glass is broken in the far right corner.
Specialist Comment: Very decorative pieces, with some charming details finely worked. The textiles are protected as mounted and glazed. Would need to place out of direct sunlight.
