Description
- wool and silk embroidery, linen
- approximately 262 by 287cm; 8ft. 7in., 9ft. 5in.
comprised of four joined vertical panels, embroidered in polychrome wools with a central medallion and outer border incorporating fruit and foliage
Condition
The design is not symmetrical, and it is possible that the present panel is lacking the lower section of the original design. The panel has two small demi-lune sections missing in the top left corner (across the horizontal edge) and top right corner (vertical edge), as visible in the photograph, and filled with the lining to create the straight edges. There are some lines of the design visible in the top right corner which are without stitches. The top right and top left corners have been altered, and horizontal cut and joins are visible. There are also alterations to the bottom left and right corners. There are some losses and later reworking to some of stems in particular. This panel has been expertly lined with lightweight ivory coloured fine linen.
Specialist Comment: This textile could be used as a coverlet or as a hanging.
